Week in Review

Wow!!! What a fun filled week...Last Monday, April 25, we celebrated out 41st wedding anniversary...We didn't do much, just went to dinner at the Lotus Garden Chinese restaurant, one of my wife's favorites, and then rented the movie "Sideways"...Sure wish I knew as much about wine as they did in the movie.

Wednesday we went to a 50th birthday party ( see the previous blog ), Saturday night we went Country and Western dancing and on Sunday morning we were entered in the Run Through Redlands Marathon. We had signed up for the 5K run ( we didn't run...We walked and darned near came in last ). We just wanted to show that we weren't necessarily fast but we were fit...Or so we thought. Marlen threw her back out of whack on Friday but with a little heat and some tylenol thought that she would be ok for The Run...So we "shook it off" and started The Run with everyone else. In the first 100 yards we almost got run over by everyone else ( so that's what they meant by the "run" part)...After the first 1/4 mile I knew we were in trouble when some short, heavy, older lady using two walking canes passed us going uphill like we were standing still...And the young girl with the twin stroller smiled brightly at us as she rolled on by with two kids waving at us...As we started a downhill leg Marlen's back seemed to get worse and when we finished the walk we both had a lot more things bothering us...We found muscles and knee joints we didn't know we had...I guess we're not as fit as we thought...But you would have been proud of us...We smiled brightly for our pictures as we crossed the finish line in 57.32 minutes for the 5K...(we really do have to get back in shape ).

To celebrate our success we went to lunch at BJ's, had the Southwestern Salad with Barbecue Shrimp (we shared it, for the calories you know ), and toasted our feat with a bottle of Chardonnay...Skoal!!!

Hey Pops! Amy and Angulina were thrilled that you got back to them. They think I'm a real ballbuster. Amy was so impressed she wanted a picture of you and Mom to take a gander at. I sent them one from Beth's wedding. I hope all is well and that Mom has recovered from her back problem. I love you guys and I'll talk to you soon. Give 'em hell out there.

Geez...I'm so glad to have this blog to read so I know what my family is doing. I talked to Mom but she didn't say anything about her back. And then I feel like a half an inch tall...I can't believe I forgot your anniversary. I'm sorry but HAPPY ANNIVERSARY anyway!!!! I would have liked to walk the Run through Redlands with you. Oh well, maybe next year.
